Water Safety Sydney & the Northern Beaches

Drone surveillance, ocean swim safety and event water safety crews from Manly to Cronulla.

Servicing the Sydney & Northern Beaches region

Sydney's coastline runs more than 100 kilometres from Palm Beach in the north to Cronulla in the south, and almost every weekend somewhere on it there is an ocean swim, a surf comp, a triathlon or a school carnival running across the sand. Coastal Water Safety Australia operates across the entire Sydney basin — deploying drone shark surveillance, jet ski rescue crews and full event water safety packages with same-week notice. We work alongside Surf Life Saving NSW, Marine Rescue, council lifeguards and event organisers to keep participants and swimmers safe on some of the busiest beaches in the country.

The Sydney & Northern Beaches coastline

The Northern Beaches alone — Manly through Palm Beach — host more than thirty significant ocean swims and surf events each year. The Eastern Suburbs corridor of Bondi, Tamarama and Bronte sees year-round swimming traffic and shark sightings that regularly close beaches. The Sutherland Shire's Cronulla Peninsula adds a different mix of ocean and bay environments. Each pocket of coast has its own currents, hazards and event culture — our crews come prepared with local knowledge and the right kit for each environment.

Local conditions & hazards

Bondi's notorious Backpackers' Express rip; the strong sweep at Manly and Long Reef on a south swell; rock platform dangers between Bronte and Tamarama; bull shark activity in the Hawkesbury and Botany Bay; and large white shark sightings across the metropolitan beaches in recent seasons. Crowd density compounds every one of these — a routine swim becomes a mass-rescue event quickly when 1,500 people are in the water.
