Why Event Water Safety Matters
Ocean and coastal water events carry unique risks that standard land-based safety planning doesn't cover. Changing surf conditions, rip currents, participant fatigue, marine life, and the inherent unpredictability of open water all require a dedicated water safety strategy — and a team with the skills and equipment to execute it.
CWSA provides that capability. Our team brings real-world water rescue experience, professional equipment, and the systems thinking developed across many operational deployments to deliver event safety coverage that genuinely protects your participants, your organisation, and the public.
Types of Events We Cover
CWSA has experience planning and executing water safety operations for a broad range of ocean events and activities:
- Surf competitions — recreational and competitive, including junior events
- Ocean swimming events and charity swims
- Triathlon and ocean swim legs for multi-sport events
- Ironman and surf lifesaving carnivals
- Community beach days and council-run water activities
- Corporate team events and group water activities
- School and youth ocean education programmes
- Film shoots, photo productions, and media activities in the ocean
Our Approach: Planning First
Effective event water safety starts well before the day. CWSA works with event organisers in the lead-up to every engagement to develop a thorough understanding of the venue, the activity, and the risk profile — and to build a safety management plan that's genuinely fit for purpose.
Our pre-event planning process includes:
- Site assessment — beach geography, surf conditions, access points, and hazard mapping
- Participant profile review — numbers, age range, experience levels, and any special considerations
- Risk assessment and hazard register preparation
- Safety Management Plan (SMP) development in line with state and local requirements
- Liaison with council, Surf Life Saving, NSW Police (Marine), and relevant authorities as required
- Emergency action plan — clear escalation pathways for incident response
- Equipment and personnel deployment plan
On-Water Team & Equipment
On the day, CWSA deploys a team matched to the scale and risk level of your event. Our operational assets include:
- Two JetSkis with trained operators — positioned for fastest possible response to any water incident
- Rescue sled capability for JetSki-assisted extraction of injured or distressed persons
- Thermal drone surveillance — available as an add-on for large events or high-risk environments
- Marine VHF radio communication network across the full deployment team
- First aid trained operators on the beach and in the water
- Clearly identified CWSA high-visibility uniforms for easy participant identification of safety staff
Council & Organisation Partnerships
CWSA is actively building partnerships with local councils and ocean recreation organisations across NSW. For councils seeking to improve water safety provision at their beaches — particularly for community events, school programmes, or seasonal activations — we offer flexible engagement models ranging from one-off event coverage to longer-term retained arrangements.
We bring genuine capability, professional documentation, and a commitment to continuous improvement that makes CWSA a credible, reliable safety partner for any coastal council or community organisation.
